Nobody
Think about it. Every day when faced with difficult decisions. We either do the right thing, or, sometimes we do nothing and let the world pass by. I remember a poster in my church talking about nobody being the most active person in the church. The words were along the lines of Everybody thought Somebody was going to do it, Somebody thought Anybody was going to do it, Anybody thought Everybody was going to do it. So who did it? Nobody.
Nobody always seems to be the one who takes responsibility. Nobody ensures things get done. Nobody volunteers when others walk away. Nobody believes we always can find a way to win. Haley Sue was nobody.
I always found it amazing the Haley was the glue that bound people and projects together. It was almost completely because she did not back down from anything. If she was challenged others might shy away, concerned about failure. Not Haley, she took on every task with bravado, and perhaps even an over abundance of confidence that she would overcome, she would win. Whether it was work or play Haley would put in more than 100%. Where others wanted to win, Haley was sure she would win and in the process would take as many people with her as she could. There were people who challenged Haley to be sure, but the person that challenged Haley the most was, Haley. Nobody could put more pressure on Haley than Haley, and Anybody that stood between her and victory would soon find they were likely outmatched. She was never rude or arrogant, she just would not fail. She would do what anybody, everybody, and somebody set aside and complete her goal. She would befriend Somebody that Everybody did not, take on tasks that Somebody avoided, and find a path where Anybody feared to tread. It was who she was.
I sit back now and ask if not implore everyone to walk away with a seemingly simple lesson. Be a nobody. Find the passion and commitment to go where others will not. Be like Haley Sue, do what others avoid, and in the process make a difference to us all. When the chips are down maybe it will be a special kind of nobody that wins the day. I know Haley would have won.
